I am continuing work on my chimney installation. I leveled the plate that the chimney tee sits on but when I install the tee, using the adapter plate (which I find strange just sits in the opening of the support plate and does not have a mechanical connection) the tee is not plumb. I slid the adapter plant fully in and twisted it into place. So why is the tee out of plumb when the support plate is plumb?
Not sure- never installed such a thing.... Could you put up a pic or two? Maybe include whatever link the instructions suggest for some of us to be able to look at things?
After working with supervent, I am not that happy with it. However, I am stuck with it at this time. When I checked the fore and aft on top of the tee it was level. However, when I went inside to check the pipe coming into the room, it is not level; I am thinking the joints are sloppy.
No, it was the opposite, there was more pipe showing at the bottom than at the top; which would indicate it was pitched up.
Oh... Hmmmmmm. See what you can get outa Selkirk and report back... Hate that it's not going smoothly for you.
This job should have been no more than a day. I have spent three days just working on the support bracket.
All adding up towards learning things about yourself, improving your skill set, embracing your needs, and providing for those needs... Difficult or time and $ consuming notwithstanding, you're making strides and you've got to appreciate that at the end of the day or three days or even when it takes longer. Keep yer nose to the grind stone- you're doing fine!
Agree 100% Sometimes you just need to step away for a time.....I've found it's much better to try and celebrate the accomplishments of a project than grumble or get angry about the things that do not go just as planned. (I didn't say that was easy for me) I've thrown more than one hissy fit.
Yes, but I am worried that I won't get this done for winter burning. It has been cold (at least to me) for the last few days.
I'm not talking weeks, sometimes just a few hours or sleep on it......His mercies are new every morning
Obviously you aren't an expert, so it shouldn't take you the same time as an expert - or even someone who is moderately experienced. Since moving to my own place I have found that everything I do takes at least 3 times longer than I am reasonable certain it should. The fact that you are checking such things as plumbness, and worrying about it, is an indication that you are making sure you do it right - I congratulate you on that. As others have stated, sometimes you gotta take a deep breath and walk away from it for a short time. Sometimes just doing something else will bring to mind the solution or answer you seek. Not always, but it is great when it does happen
I agree with Locust Post and Eric VW Just look at how much you have accomplished in an area you are just venturing into. If there is a next time, you will realize how much you have learned from this project. Hang in there.
I just examined the tee and it is the problem, there is a 1/4 inch difference between sides. Off to call Selkirk.
This is how quality control works, you do a statistical analysis on how many units to test; if you test all then you get high quality control but it may cost more if you need to hire extra quality control personnel. You determine what level of defected units you are willing to send out the door. Then you use stats to say I need to test every 500 units to get a quality control of say, 70%. The result is that consumers will end up with defective units at times. I am one of those customers
I contacted Selkirk and I am not very happy. They are going to send a replacement tee but the guy said it would take three weeks; I can not go that long without getting this chimney installed and burning wood. The guy I spoke with, a Price Gurdy, told me to take the tee to Lowe's and get them to give me one from another box. I asked him to send me an email as a rep from Selkirk outlining the issue and telling them to give me the replacement tee and to RMA the defective "box". He refused to do something that would cost him nothing but a few minutes of his time. I told him I was not happy with supervent and that I was stuck with it for now but if anyone asked me I would tell them to go with Duravent. Supervent is a sloppy made producted. I have a section of 24 that does not want to go into another section because of a bad joint; I might be able to make it work but the whole product is just sloppily made; it may pass the requirements under code but it is not a good product. I told him to send me the replacement tee but I need to get one sooner than 3 weeks.
