I should be wearing a cape when im using this thing, its freakin unbelievable, i have no words, well over a cord split. I wish i knew what time i started but in only had to be like an hour and a half maybe. All the rounds were in a pile next to me and it was three truckloads of that free red oak that 30B40BA9-8471-4EC6-8D2A-3885EA8E2602.jpeg was sitting in log length for three years. I have one more load of that to go. It was a total of 10 trucks.

That's a pretty pile of splits. And you've got the pallets right there to stack them on, good planning!

Im terrible at planning, organizing, procrastinating and stuff. However upper management (wife) has noticed how well i manage my wood chores, hoarding/selling/storing etc that she gives me crap about wishing i could be like that about other things in my life like how i cant put dirty clothes in a laundry basket instead of on the floor rt next to the laundry basket.  She is always right though i dont know how she does that

That “wood” be awesome. I can hear the superman theme song rt now as i picture myself standing on a giant pile of logs with my FHC cape flowing in the wind with flames coming off the back of it and holding my huge 200 cc chainsaw in my hand

I've always thought wow those splitters are fast but wondered if they have enough torque. I like fast, it's tempting but, wow, sticker shock, the mind has difficulty justifying $4k to $5k, which is what it would cost with necessary options.

.[/QUOTE] I just bought a Split Fire unit for the 3pth of my tractor .It splits both directions and after using the normal ones for 30 plus years it was a little tricky not pulling the wedge back but within 30 minute got the hang of it.The unit I have has both a 2way & 4 way wedge so for the bigger stuff I just lift the 4 way off drop on the 2 way and carry on..Retail for unit is around $2200 Cdn

Yup, im glad my buddy Travis and i can trade back and forth. My hydraulic splitter is much more relaxing and safer if that makes sense, but for volume the super split is unbelievable but very dangerous. As far as torque when you hit a big knotty piece you have to keep releasing the ram and re-strike the wood, its not like a hydraulic where it just pushes through. The super splitters belt slips when pushing hard so you release and give it to er again and again if needed but iv only had to repeat strikes twice. If you hit a log a certain way and the decks not clear you can have logs come up and almost hit you in the face, i think your gambling when using this thing without some sort of face shield like the screen shield/cover on my hardhat. I could break your nose or knock teeth out or worse

I've been using a kinetic for 6 years, 12+ cord a year or so for my OWB. They push through almost everything but as mentioned some real nasty stuff will slip the belt (or clutch on some). Worst case you let the ram return and the flywheels build speed again almost instantly, then hit it again. It's very rare it takes a third, and with how fast it is even a second or third hit is still way faster than hydraulic.

As for the "danger" of it, you need to read the wood a little more and just be aware of orientation. If the rounds aren't cut straight and 1 or both ends are on any sort of angle you just need to be aware and set it properly so it doesn't push up and pop out at you...when you're new on the splitter you may get a few bruises but after a couple of those mistakes you learn quick to pay attention to the wood and orient accordingly. I rarely have issues now.

Unless you routinely split gnarly odd shaped stuff I recommend these kinetics over hydraulic anyday. Definitely a little spendier but WAY quicker, like id say I can process 2-3x the wood I can with my dads hydraulic. The only other time I hydraulic might be better is if you're unable to lift rounds up, because the kinetics can not be lifted vertically like a hydraulic.

They also sip a fraction of the fuel as hydraulics. Not a huge deal but over many many years it could add up

Sometimes the key to getting the task done quicker is how you have the wood that needs splitting. If you have to move a lot to get the next log, that adds a lot to the time needed for the task.

On the Kinetic splitters; when using machinery it is always a red flag when speed is involved. One gets to moving faster and faster and that alone can be a big cause of accidents. Therefore, I try my level best to never hurry when machinery is involved. I don't mind if it takes a little longer. I have the time or will make the time.

Ive seen one of those in action and was really impressed by the speed. Id get one of those in a heartbeat over hydro IF i were to get an automatic wood splitter. My wood scrounges are mostly based on "ease of splitting" factor.

That's what scares me about those super splitters. I like that my splitter is slow enough that I can think about where my hands and fingers are as I pull the lever.
