Anyone do sunflowers? I have long had the urge to put some sunflowers along the east side of my shop building, just to look at them whenever I look out the back windows have no idea where to start. Do the usual farm stores stock the planting seeds, or should I get some online? I am hopeful they are pretty labor free. My Venus Flytrap has survived three seasons, so here’s hoping.
We do every year. I get packs of different seeds where I buy my plants. Start them in small pots placing 12 to 15 seeds about an inch deep. Keep the soil moist and in direct sunlight. Replant once they get about 4 inches.
One of the easiest things to grow. You should find seeds where ever you find vegetable seeds. The mammoth ones get 8-10 ft tall with large heads. Wait for the ground to warm up, drop a few seeds then walk away. Deer and wood chucks love them
No sunflowers , every time I try them the darn squirrels eat the seeds as soon as they sprout. I think I will try again this year. Found your butterfly though.
Miss July has had [some] success with sunflowers. Just need to protect them when they're small from crows, squirrels, rabbits and deer. She likes the Giant sunflowers.
