Short of a tree service dumping this in my driveway, it was just about as easy. Almost a year ago our electrical utility, Westar Energy, sent around a crew trimming back branches, as they usually do in the spring, early summer. In this case the neighbors east of us - 3 homes, all backed up to a plot of vacant cropland - the trimmers asked if they could take down the whole tree. Which amounted to a raggedly collection of volunteer growth wood -- BUT it's primo hedge (Osage orange) and ash. The neighbors don't burn; I do - they say 'Walk over and take as much as you want.' I filled up 1 1/2 cords worth late summer and fall. The weeds, however, took over and it got to hard to sort through the uglies to find the good straight stuff. Sooooo ... today I strolled over and since the weeds have died, I collected a nice load of good stuff. Of course it's in odd lengths too, but still ... Sometimes you get lucky. ... Next I'll have to get it trimmed up and split.
