Or I guess pre-summer, as the first day isn't until tomorrow. Yesterday I spent about an hour spitting this load of pine that will be wood for October/November. Most of the pieces split pretty easily. Hopefully the kids will help with stacking. This morning I cut a load in the National Forest. Felled a dead tree across the road. Easy loading for sure! Here are the unloaded rounds back at my place. I'm going to try to split those tomorrow morning before it gets too hot. Went back to the National Forest after lunch and cut another load, this time 2 smaller trees that were also felled across the road. Was going to try to get some mowing in, but Mother Nature had other plans. So I just sat on the deck and watched the storm roll in. Time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the rain with a friend.
Yes, there always comes a time when the work stops. Good time to watch the weather and soak up some beverage.
I hear you there Dave! Unfortunately when scrounging, people don't care that its the weekend or its 90 degrees. They want the trees/wood removed ASAP. So its either work hard and sweat equity or be cold in the winter for me. And then there is the campfire wood deliveries to squeeze in there as well! (punky and less desirable wood I take to please those offering good wood for free!) It seems to never end. Course I could just flip the l.p. furnace on but what's the fun in that!
Good work man. I would like to be done with firewooding for the summer, but, the arborist is coming next week to remove two 20+" dbh oaks that are dying and threatening to fall on our house. So... I guess I'll be busting hump in the 90+ degree weather, too.
Yeah I'm with you. It was only in the 80s here but very very humid. I drank about a gallon of water while working during the day and I may have sweated out more than that! I've got between 3-4 more cords to cut, split and stack before I'm done for the summer. I was going to split what I cut yesterday really early this morning but I decided to give myself a break - it is Father's day after all!
