Somerset has been my best. Truman was just OK, Barefoots my auger didn't like. A rule of thumb is if they are produced from sawdust from their own manufacturing of floors and such they are usually high quality.
Thanks everyone . I'm trying to step up my game on name and quality recognition of the hardwoods in my area . The ones I've seen so far are Somerset's, Lignetics and Pres to logs . Have been using Sets lately and loving those along with my softwoods .
You are starting with some of the very best right there so the bar will be set high. In theory, those PTLs and Ligs you have are the same product in different bags. Batch variance can often make it difficult to tell, but based on your experience with them, would you guess they are the same product?
Green Teams are also a very good Hardwood , but since they jacked the price up to $7.00 / bag they really aren't that good , I don't think anyone on this forum even buys them anymore . Priced themselves out'a this market .
My only experience with hardwoods has been with the Sets and I'm pretty sure it doesn't get any better than that . But it seems there's only one Lowes in my area with a very limited supply. Maybe next year I'll see if they can order me 2 tons .
Another vote for sets. I also really like greenways and Countryboy. Turmans rocked a few years ago, But seemed to have slipped. Still a good pellet, But ash is more than it used to be. White Oak is about the cleanest hardwood fiber I have seen. Cubex(often made form Oak fiber and other flooring saw dust) can be outstanding, But have heard some clinker issues as well ash a bit ashy from other reviews. Always did well in my heap. Barefoots can be hit or miss at times. But still a good solid pellet in my heap. AWF do really well too. Can't forget Hamers(hardwood heats and a few other names here), Good solid pellet! Liggies(bit technically a blend ) are good and hot, But can be a bit ashy on occasions.
just finished a ton of Ligs//[green lettering].... A bit dissapointed with them this year.... quite ashy and some Bubble shaped speedbumps on the burnpot sides..never had that before... very good heat though... next up.. Lacrete Sprucewoods.... oh my
