We'll give it another winter just so we can see if Mother Nature will do the job, if not maybe next fall, I have my spring/summer cutting planned for next year. The two storms in the spring/summer of 2013 put down some nice size Cherry (5) along with what I hope are three Sugar Maples, but yes I'll get this.
Looks like soft. But pictures can easily throw you a curve ball. Never really understood why but they do me at least.
Also looks like you have a mild incline to work on too. Can't tell what kind of Maple but you will get a decent amount once you get it to the ground. Is it a blowover?
Another vote for soft. Doesn't look hung up too bad - couple good winter storms might shake it loose. Might not even take that much I - wouldn't wanna be walking underneath that thing. Good luck - looks pretty big. And hey if it stays up a while, it's just seasoning more..
The area the trees in is not real bad but the walk down was slippery. I can get to it with the Rhino from the top but being so wet I stayed off the trail.
Quite sure it's not sugar maple. Could be silver maple, by the bark. Excellent kindling and shoulder-fuel. It'll burn nicely once dry- won't take long.
That will make some nice fires for ya Woodlands. Hopefully mother nature will bring her the rest of the way down for you. Good luck when you get to it.
Not that we want our Sugar Maple down, but if Mother Nature puts a bunch of wood down, we'll take a few Sugar Maples.
