Walked out the door yesterday headed to a retirement party for my wife's uncle, who has done great work as a fireman for the last 30+ years, and my neighbor is coming up the driveway. Has a buddy in town he says with some wood on the front lawn, needs it to disappear. "Tell him not to put a free sign on it, I'll get there" says me.

Fast forward to the end of the party, time to go home and put the baby to bed. She nurses, I do my Dad piece with the fresh diaper and pj's, into the crib and fast asleep she goes. The whole time I'm thinking about this wood laying by the roadside, where somebody is definitely going to snag it on Sunday morning, being that it's a couple blocks up from a church... So I lose the tie and dress slacks, get into my smelly clothes, and find a nice pile of rounds when I get to the site. Score! Nobody grabbed it while we were off celebrating uncle's great career. Rolled into the driveway with the springs creaking about 10:30, sweaty and happy as a pig in a poke.

Got it all split right out of the truck bed in beautiful hot & dry weather this afternoon, and carted it over to start hardwood stack number 2. Heavy sucker it was, must have been alive the day before. Found some leaves to confirm (as far as I can tell) my sugar maple guess on species.

Pics or it never happened, right?

How's the heat treating you guys?

On our trip out west, we stayed a night in Council Bluffs! I see just how close that is to you, now. I could have brought you two a piece of firewood from the U.P., no?  and seen that awesome truck of yours!

It's been great! Trying to paint the house, but have to wear my Carhart coat and keep the paint from freezing. NOT! way to hot and dry. But, have to go with the flow. 99 degrees yesterday while painting the south (hot) side of the house with 70%~ humidity. Truck is just a beater, not much to see.  Yep, in Council Bluffs all the time. Loaded a 48" diameter by 11' long mulberry there a few years ago. Truck felt that load.

OP Nice load of maple, we don't see much hard maple here. Lots of Silver though.

Congrats to you BigPapi for seizing the opportunity while it was there. That is how you get those free BTU's. The right place at the right time.

Me too! I've got a lot of mid grade wood, it is good to get some more rocket fuel in the stacks for those windy before zero days.:coldfire:
