sorry Grizz - just feeding of Nate's post. those tomatillos are big, I just have random volunteers in the garden - even though I've never planted them in the 8yrs of my gardening here.
I figured. They are toma verdes, I think. We have some smaller ones out front that are actually husk cherries.
That's probably what mine are - husk cherries. They are tart Pretty sure that's one of the give-away packs of seeds they throw in from some of the online/magazine greenhouse suppliers.
If you wait til they drop, the husks should turn brown. If they are sweeter then they are definitely a husk cherry. We made a cobbler with our last year, this year I want to make a tomatillo pie. Reminds me of both rhubarb and gooseberries, but the sweeter ones have a vanilla or pineapple taste depending on the variety.
We have the husk cherries too, call them ground cherries round these parts. Very good pies from them if you let them ripen. I like just eating them out of the garden myself.
The picture looks like a pop tart. Not sure about putting tomatoes on one though?! No idea what a tomorillo is.
If I DO eat breakfast it takes about a whole box of Pop Tarts to fill me up, so I guess a cookie sheet sized one aught to so just fine.
