Where does everyone who lives in suburban neighborhoods stack their wood? We live in a neighborhood with fairly small lot sizes (80 x 100 feet) with no real fences and I'm having a hard time figuring out where to stack wood for seasoning while keeping the wife happy... I'm new to this so forgive the naive question... We have a Pacific Energy NEO 1.6 getting installed in about two weeks. The burning season here is just about over so I've got to get working for next year, I just thought some of you in small neighborhoods might have some good ideas for where to stack wood... Let's see some pictures!
Holtz hausen work good for small space...with small space iffn you wanna burn good hardwood u mite wanna think solar kiln
I'm in the same situation , my lot is only 50x200, I'm lining the back 75', and making a couple cubes, we have a big garage that I have one side stacked with wood. I'm trying to keep it as neat as possible. I wish I had more room to spread everything out.
Let's see, we're both in Washington - bring it over to my place, I'll take real good care of it for you! Greg
Instead of landscaping, do a bit of woods-scaping... If you wanted a fence, it makes a great fence row. I'm way outside of suburbia, but I like to have all my wood nice and close to the house - it would fit on a small lot. And it occupies a "small" visual space I think. I have it mostly stacked around 2 sides of my garage, then I have a 10' holzhausen as well. Stacked out around 11 cords - more than 2 years worth for me.
Whatever arrangement you go for, I recommend optimized ventilation and a roof over the stacks. Limited space means you simply can't hoard as much wood as the guys out in the country can. It will be important to get the stuff to dry as quickly as possible so you can cycle it through faster. So, improve ventilation where you can, cover the stacks so that rain and snow aren't constantly re-wetting them, and get wood that will be usable relatively soon, i.e. fast-drying species or wood that is already partway dry before you get it.
Sounds like your wife needs to attend re-education camp. Is that the "outhouse" attached to your woodshed or your woodshed attached to the outhouse???
Yep, that's why. That room doesn't get used much, though, so my wife says I should just fill it in. That would be another half a cord.
Keep it neat so the neighbors don't cry a blue river,,landscape timbers are cheap and wouldn't be visible like a pallet would be for stacking on. I would "chimney stack" the ends instead of using post or building a lumber rack,,keep it looking natural, neat and clean,,weed eat around the edges and sech.
