It could get interesting on Thursday or Friday, with all the rain we've had it won't take much for some trees to come down.
This just popped up for our area. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BURLINGTON HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING. * LOCATIONS...THE SAINT LAWRENCE VALLEY AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE NORTHERN ADIRONDACK MOUNTAINS IN NEW YORK. * HAZARDS...STRONG AND POTENTIALLY DAMAGING SOUTHWEST WINDS. * WINDS...SOUTHWEST 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH. * TIMING...WINDS WILL INCREASE OUT OF THE SOUTHWEST LATE THURSDAY NIGHT AND EARLY FRIDAY MORNING...PEAKING BETWEEN 11 AM AND 5 PM ON FRIDAY.
Should be fun trick-or-treating tomorrow: THUNDERSTORMS WITH HEAVY RAINFALL ARE LIKELY THURSDAY AND THURSDAY EVENING. SOME STORMS DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING MAY BE SEVERE WITH DAMAGING WINDS THE PRIMARY THREAT. ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE. THE GREATEST RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER IS EXPECTED SOUTH OF A TERRE HAUTE TO MUNCIE LINE. LIGHTNING IS A THREAT FROM ANY THUNDERSTORM. IN ADDITION...WINDS OUTSIDE OF THUNDERSTORMS COULD GUST OVER 40 MPH THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT.
Oh chit! Man am I ever glad the big trees are no longer beside my house. I still have big trees, just none next to the house. We had one that literally twisted apart about 8 ft up the trunk. It was a very tall maple. When it came down, it drove the legs to the kid's metal swing set 4 feet into the ground. I hate when those big ones drop limbs or tip over roots and all. The problem here is that the soil isn't deep in most places. Lots of ledge outcropping. Typical Maine.
Could be a good storm for sure. They are even prediciting high winds up here and I am 190 miles north of the St. Lawrence
If it his us that will be 3 years in a row! 38" of snow from winter storm Alfred(11) 5 days no power, then Hurricane Sandy(12) 7 days no power! Now this?
We've been hit with storms twice this year, not looking forward to another. Certified106, we have two hangers (1 has been up for 4 years) that none of the storms brought down.
I'd be real happy if it took the rest of the leaves down too. So once an for all I can finish them. Hopefully she don't blow too hard at us and all will be well. Gonna bunker down JIC!
Thanks for the info woodlands. Glad I took that maple down next to the camp power line. I better check out any other trees next to the line tomorrow morning. Then bring the generator out and start it up and get all my ducks in a row.
Thanks. Were you going through withdrawals when the government shutdown happened? First time I went to the NOAA site and it was basically "were down because of the government shutdown".
Pretty steady rain and breezy here. Nothing to get excited about. A lot of leaves coming off the trees.
