Strep Throat, then oral thrush Geez!!!

First I get a really bad sore throat, I go to the doctor he says its strep throat, I start taking antibiotics, a couple days later inside my mouth it's rough n raw, I get a flashlight to look, I have white spots and blotches every where in my mouth and on my toung, so I go back to the doctor and get medicine for that, strep throat is much better now and the thrush is clearing up.
Anyone ever have thrush before? I never heard of it till I got it

 

Common with certain antibiotics. With the thrush, they treat with a swish and swallow med. steroids can also contribute to this.

 

Never heard of it or had it, sounds rough though.

I've had strep once, in the throat and head, and it's no fun for sure

 

Strep is very contagious so no coughing without covering your mouth, and carful hand washing. No sharing food or beverages. Eat well and keep hydrated. Get plenty of rest.

 

Yep that's what I have Nystatin, oral suspension.
My mouth n lips are still kinda raw n sore, but at least it doesn't feel like I am trying to swallow glass any more, it all started weekend before last

 

I have been doing all that, and everything I can to get over it

I use to get that nasty Strept throat a lot whe I was kid. Then did not have it for a long time. Probably 20 years. In August I had the worst case I ever had of it. I could not swallow anything. Even water hurt. So I also had to go through Caffiene withdrawals too. Mommy! The doc gave me antibiotics and after a few days I got worse! WTF? I was not happy! Then she gave me stronger antibiotics and it finally took care of it. Until then I was a miserable thing to be around.

How was it in the middle of the night when you woke up and tried to swallow? it was really bad for me.
I had strep throat about 30 years ago, but I don't remember it being this bad
I had tonsillitis about a million times when I was young then had my tonsils out when I was 16

 

It was bad night and day, this last time it went through me. Like it infected me through something to my ears it felt like. I had constant nagging headaches. I hope I never, ever get it again.

 

I basically flip flopped back and forth between aspirin and Advil every 3-4 hours just to allow some normalcy.

 

I used to get strep all the time as a kid. All 3 kids had strep and hand foot and mouth all at the same time. That was not fun.

 

Interesting read...my wife gets those white polyps in her mouth on occasion. She plays doctor and goes in and picks them off. I think I'll drop her an email today and tell her what HDRock has might be the same as hers.

 

I had some headaches to , took Tylenol & Ibuprofen every 3-4 hours seamed to help my throat too

 

Thrush is a yeast infection ,In my case the antibiotics killed the good bacteria in my mouth and allowed the bad bacteria to grow .
Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of Fungus Candida Albicans
I read that eating yogurt can prevent it or clear it up if it isn't to bad .
I bought some acidophilus pills at the drug store and have been taking them to, Nature's Bounty Extra Strength Probiotic Acidophilus, Capsules
Taking acidophilus pills or eating yogurt that contains the live acidophilus culture may help

 

I had oral thrush a few years ago, I know what you're going through!! Mine started with a sore throat and my doctor gave me steroids which messed up the bacteria in my mouth and I got thrush. She prescribed 3 different medicines for the thrush and it didn't go away until she sent me to an ear, nose, and throat doctor. He gave me something that finally killed it, but in all I had it about 6 weeks. I lost about 15 lbs in that time and got to where I wouldn't eat until I had had a few beers or shots to numb the pain a little. It was by far the most miserable I've ever been. I eat greek yogurt religiously now to help prevent that from ever happening again!

Their was some humor in it though. My best friend got thrush at the same time and had similar issues getting rid of it. At the time I was dating a girl who he was close friends with. There was a lot of talk from friends who knew all 3 of us about what he and I were eating to catch a yeast infection in our mouths.....
