My wife has a small 8'x16', mostly glass, sunroom on the side of the house and wants to get a small pellet stove for it because it's impossible to keep warm in the winter. Does anyone have suggestions on a good (new or used) small pellet stove and where to find one in Maine?
A good friend of mine also had a sunroom about the same size as yours. He put in an Enviro Mini, and loved it. Very quiet, and he heated the space with it on low.
Any small stove that is thermostat compatible will do the trick I would think. Hardest part may be the wife choosing one she likes.
Yeah, doesn't matter what your research comes up with, if wife wants something else, that's what it will be. Does her taste go more towards European sleekness (Allure 50, St. Croix Element P, Piazetta etc) or traditional (Ashley, St. Croix Hastings, Harman XXV etc)? I would think just about any pellet stove would do well in there. The only stove I know anything about in my list above is the Hastings. It is a fine heater and looks really nice. Just wasn't right for my circumstances.
Thanks for the tips. I'll keep any eye out for an Enviro Mini. It does need to be small because it's a tiny room.
I see one for $1900 on eBay, but it's pick-up only......it's in Springfield, Mass. Looks to be new showroom display model. FIRESIDE DESIGNS 1769 RIVERDALE ST WEST SPRINGFIELD MA ENVIRO MINI PELLET STOVE NEW List Price $3100.00 NOW $1900.00 | eBay
The hopper didn't hold enough. There were several times that I got home and it had either run out or was literally 20 pellets from running out (I would top it off to the hilt before I left for work every morning). I HAD to empty the ash pan and clean the stove every week (once it was burning regularly). The panels inside the chamber were a pain to get back in place correctly so the top shield fell after the stove had lit (happened several times no matter how careful I was). And lastly, it was big enough so I had to do a corner install - so all the heat went into a dead corner of my living room (I couldn't put it anywhere else due to clearance requirements). I had to run several fans to get the heat to the bedrooms so it was wicked noisy 24/7. The P43, sitting in the same place, on the same pad, using the same exhaust, sits so the air stream is pointed down my hallway - I don't use any supplemental fans. It needs cleaning/empty of ash pan every 2-3 weeks, and it is just plain easier to clean than the Hastings. It has a hopper extension so I'm never in danger of running out of pellets unless I forget to check it. Bonus, most of the parts are the same as the P61a in the basement, so any spare parts I get (like igniter), can be used with either stove. Like I said, the Hastings was a fine heater, just not right for my circumstances.
Hi Scot! Don’t know how many dealers you have near you....BUT, you need to determine which dealers have the best service past and present, AND, which dealers will still be in business 3-5 years from now. Ideally, you want to have two dealers fairly nearby that you can depend on!!! Some stove manufacturers may list 8 dealers in your state as an authorized dealer, but when you go and check them out, you find a house or a barn with the stove brand on them and a phone number that doesn’t work....just saying! Good Luck, Bill
I actually ran into that problem with my Harman PB105 pellet boiler. The dealer I bought it from is out of business now.
