I have an All Nighter Little Moe and it's looking kind of aged. I'm thinking of painting it this year. Any recommendations on quality stove paints for cast iron? How about prep work before I paint?
Wire brush, sand, blow off with compressor wipe all over with mineral spirits and use #1990 black satin stove bright paint. I mostly use spray but the brush on is also good.
It's $$$, around $15-20 a can.. I think VHT would hold up well too. I've used it on car exhausts with good results. Runs 7-8$ a can.
Stove Bright is the chit. Tell this guy your a forum member and he'll probably cut you a deal. http://www.eastcoasthearth.com/products/stove-bright-high-temperature-paint
I've used the vht header paint from auto zone. Works good, cheap, lasts. Rated to 2000°F if I remember correctly.
Got brave today. Charcoal gray on the Castile. Matches the stone around the fireplace. Anybody try anything other than black?
Yep... Honey Glo Brown Painted the wood stove last year and still look good after a year of use and a couple overfire situations I have some blue and red (burgandy) that will go on the Enerzone side panels over this Summer. I have yet to decide which color. But the blue and red match the Americana colors in the room.
