Any suggestions for storing my splitter? Don’t want to take up space in my garage? I live in North Carolina.

Whatever you do, don't throw a tarp over it and seal it down to the ground all the way around. If you do have to tarp it, use something like a good heavy 6x8 or 8x10, and lay the tarp across it so the hitch and foot ends are open so air can move through it, with the sides weighted down. I've seen a lot of folks tarp equipment over, sealing the tarp completely to the ground like a big bowl, then wonder why their machines are rusty. It's even worse when the tarps get holes worn in them, and start adding rainwater into the terrarium effect from the ground mositure. Air circulation keeps moisture from building up and rusting your equipment.

How redneck do you feel? ;) I was in the process of building a new woodshed but ended up with a splitter before the shed was done. I took a truck camper shell/topper/whatever you call them in your area, set it up on a few cinderblocks, and it actually worked great as a temporary shelter. Covered but not sealed, and open so mice didn't build under the tarp. You may want to throw something over the tires to prevent UV damage, though. Looks trashy, maybe, if you're in a nicer neighborhood, but you can often find these for $50 or less if you keep an eye out.

Lots of times you can catch small metal buildings on sale. Some of those things sweat so bad inside at times that it might as well be raining inside. I guess they're not ventilated well enough? But if you want to go that route, keep an eye on your local ad paper or internet sales sites.

I have a neighbor that had an old aluminum Grumman canoe. That thing was beat all to heck, but he unbolted the center thwart and maybe one of the seats, and keeps it flipped upside down over his splitter. Not quite wide enough to cover the whole tank and tires, but otherwise it works great. But he's not afraid to be a redneck either. LOL.

Do you have access to pallets? Screw a few of those together, add some metal panels and you have a shelter.

I toss a bucket over the engine and drape a tarp over it all, but now my tarp is shredded and it's just exposed except for the bucket still.
Meant to replace the tarp but yea that new tarp is still sitting in the garage..

I cover the motor, IMO a tarp just makes a dry house for whatever critters

I'm just using EPDM scarps that I also cover some of my wood. Splitter is coming up at 4-years old, next month, and no rust anywhere on it yet.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I am thinking of laying down a bunch of 12"x12" pavers and then covering it with an old aluminum roofing sheet. I bought it at a garage sale and pulled it home and one of the wheels locked up. I think it might have been due to the wheels being exposed to the rain and the bearings rusted up. Any ideas on how to protect the wheels?

Could cut a slot in a couple old buckets so they can slide over the axles
