I am having a senior moment here on replacing this on my Stihl. Where does the rubber thingy go in the saw? It seems it fits at the end of the threaded screw inside the channel, and it will also fit between the screw head and the part the inserts into the bar.

I put it together the second way i mentioned and it seemed the assembly didn’t move the bat to tighten up the chain.

What am I missing here? Is there another part I need to get. This is for my primary saw, and want to have new one as backup.

Pics appreciated. I know this is basic stuff, but I am having a brain fart on this.

Your 028 tensioner set up looks slightly different than mine.

The bolt on mine has a flange and you don't put the bolt through the rubber piece. Mine sits on top.

According to the parts diagram (this site is great btw I use it all day long) yours looks like part #30/31/32 and the bolt *does* slip into the rubber thing.

As you can see in mine I have a channel for the bolt and I don't even see the rubber part in this particular parts diagram.

Mine is a 028 WB AV EQ and it seems they certainly mucked around with quite a few variations of various parts of the saw.

You should take a picture of your crankcase with the bolt removed and in place so we can see what's going on there.
