damm thing let me down today. After countless years of service it left me hanging. Clutch has been wasted for years. If it idles, it spins the head. Well.....not anymore. Hands will spin it but with resistance. Throttle won't spin it. Motor isn't the issue....she purrs. Wth happened? My back-up fs90r got me thru the day but it don't run worth a fugg comparatively. Anyone been here before? This is a heavily used commercial rig. Only parts I've replaced are triggers and primer bulbs.
bet it's the gear in the pole that transfers power from motor to head.. is that what your call in a clutch,,
I'll do some disassembly tomorrow. I'm on the hops right now. U saying this is where the motor meets the shaft? I need a starting place here.
I'd take everything from the purring engine (and maybe that to) to the guard apart and overhaul it. Not much to it. Fix the wasted clutch, Clean everything, replace worn parts and show her some love.
Update 1: clutch is fine. Head is fine. Canadian border VT is this the part you were talking about? If so....you were right. It appears to be a bearing that had crapped out. Can't figure out how to remove it though. Need more coffee I guess....or a bigger hammer Off to the stihl dealer.....vaseline in hand.
Tons of fretting corrosion on that. Looks like a set of clutch drum bearings and maybe even a drum to me.
yup the shafts bearing... sorry I won that bet... once you replace it it's good for as long as last time... at least mine is so far...
Yes sir. Thats part of the game unfortunately....as you know. Thing is....it was just a ntn bearing that if I knew the # beforehand and had time, I could've gotten much cheaper. Such is life....it needed fixed Today. "Done, done and I'm on to the next one...."
I have an old FS-90 that I bought new years ago, like over 20! Although it doesn't get a ton of use, every year it just keep's going. I run a 12" carbide chopsaw blade on it for saplings & tree's up to about 3". It's worth the $27 bearing for sure! I bet I just screwed myself with that statement
