You guys might remember I posted a couple of the differences between a standard MS441 and the newer M-tronic version a couple weeks back.

    http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/index.php?threads/ms441-muffler-oe-vs-m.3172/

One of the biggest differences was the exhaust outlet on the muffler was significantly smaller on the OE 441. Well, while working on this one, a muffler mod was one of the things it was here to get done.

These mufflers are just empty cans stock, no baffles. So that makes modding them a simple matter of opening up the existing opening or adding another exit port.

Here is the stock muffler opening:

And here is where we are at currently:

The saw showed a mild improvement in power, nothing to write home about but it's about what I expected given how uncluttered these mufflers are already.

And yes, there is video. :) Still have to edit/upload it however and that takes time. I ran it stock, with the mod and with the mod plus the screen removed.

That's got to be a decent improvement over stock. There is room for more, but if you have to leave the screen, then that will do, plenty good. :)

    Here is my 441C (modded)

And here is my new 362C (stock) And definitely need to do something about it ;)

I dont work for the forest service, diff agency. And the south is very fire tolerant the places I cut are usually set on fire intentionally every 3 years and are in a place where a fire would do no harm.

And the land I cut also has no restriction requiring screen.

I'm more worried about something getting in than sparks getting out.

Heh, even tho I keep the screens on mine if possible, my "work" saws rarely sit long enough for anything to make a home in them.

They also hang out in the garage/shop with me and even my wife won't stay in there for long......:smoke::saw:

Thinking of stuff blowing in while driving too. With all the dirt and debris in the back of a truck.

You haven't seen the back of my trucks have you? ;)

And the saw rides in the cab unless it leaks. :emb: :loco:

Only time saws ride in my cab is if there is no room for them cause there is so much wood in the bed.

That's usually the case. Especially if I bring the big truck. If' I'm buying the fuel, the trip is gonna be worth it. :saw::tree:[IMG]:axe: :fire:

If I have a larger saw with a long bar I usually wedge it on the wood. I know some dont like it but the way I put it it can't fall out. I too try to keep the bed neat, then I go get more wood and it gets back dirty and filled with bark

I can see one of my little curtain climbers "helping" me by filling up daddy's saw with pea gravel. If it can happen it will.
