Over the years, I have seen quite a few fans tout a Makita 7900 as a good, strong saw. I have been very close to buying one a time or two just based on fan reviews. I don't recall the equivalent Dolmar. Since I just bought a Stihl ms400, I looked at specs. Off the top of my head...

Stihl is 67cc and Makita is 79cc
Stihl has 5.4hp and Makita has 5.7hp
Stihl weighs 12.8 lbs and the Makita weighs 14.7 lbs (whopping 2 lb difference!)

So, what do you think a user would notice between the two besides weight? I suppose the larger displacement of the Makita would give it more torque but what does that mean in what one perceives? Do you think the Makita would 'shine' against the Stihl in some way? How do you think each would perform comparatively in large hardwood logs?

Kudos to Stihl on a fine saw. I have never used a Makita ea7900 but I do own an ea4300 and love it, it's a very cool saw. Mine is even BLUE color. Bought it out of London, England. Couldn't find blue here, lol.

There’s no real comparison between the 2. The ms400 is more similar to a Dolmar 6100. The 7900 is a tick ahead of the 500i
