I am selling this saw for my next door neighbor he is a single disabled Vet on a fixed income and is having to get over $500 a month for chemo for his dog he is the original owner of this saw and has kept it nice I ran it for a few and it seems strong he put a brand new bar on it that I am not sure has seen wood and he can not remember lol. he has 5 or 6 chains that will need sharpened to go with it two screnches a few used files and owners manual. Case is not included it is missing a latch and is just to large to ship. I would like $300 but will entertain offers. Thanks Devin I have a 3/8 20" bar and chain I could throw in they are used you would have to buy a sproket.
Thanks yes it is I know it is on the high side $ wise but it is clean and I owe it to him to get all I can for it.
For the age and condition, that is a fair price. Those are great firewood saws. To have several chains is a plus as well. I hope he gets every penny.
Have you tried craigslist? I sold mine for $275 in two days on there and had lots of calls. Mine didn't look that good.
I called some guy trying to sell a used one for $450. He told me they were a $650 saw. I said no there not and sent a screen capture of the price from my dealer!! And told him I could get $20 off just for asking!!
I can't believe how much the prices have gone up on these though. It seems like I just bought my MS290 about 2-3 years ago and I know I did not pay $500 for it. I think I paid $379. I traded in a Husqvarna I had on it and they gave me a decent price on it towards the Stihl at the Wood Chop Shop.
The MS290 generally sold for around $400 new wearing a 20" bar. IIRC it was $379, $389, and $399 for 16", 18", and 20" bars respectively. Not unusual to see one in like new condition on CL in a case with a couple extra chains for near $500 however. They must be expecting some serious haggling.
I got a price quote for the 290 last summer and I could be out the door for $400!!! That was when I was thinking of parti g saws out on ebay.
