This is a brand new, never fueled Stihl MS261 (adjustable carb) up for sale PHO. I purchased it a few months ago from a local-to-me member from another forum with the intention of having it ported. I’ve since changed my mind, so now I’m looking to find it a new home. The one thing making it non-mint is that it has a number carved/scratched into the front of the case. When I was interested in purchasing it this drew my curiosity, so I had a Stihl dealer run the serial number and it came up clean. It has a 3/8-7T rim on it. If the buyer would prefer it I have a .325-8T rim I could send along that is very lightly used. Truthfully though, I wouldn’t recommend the 8T unless the saw is getting ported or will be running a short bar. Price is $450 + the actual cost of shipping & insurance. I will gladly ship anywhere domestically or internationally. My preference is to sell it outright, but if anyone would happen to be willing to offer a Stihl trade where I would come out ahead I would certainly entertain the idea! I will not put cash towards a trade though. Preferred method of payment is PayPal as a gift. Non-gift option is fine, but price will be $495. If the buyer doesn't have a PayPal account a Postal Money Order will also work, but the saw will not ship until I've successfully cashed it. If an interested party is within driving distance of the greater Indianapolis, IN, area local pickup is fine too and the price will obviously be reduced by the cost of shipping. There are a bunch of photos available for your viewing pleasure on photo bucket . . . just click HERE.
Ohhh.. If this was a C-M? I'd be all over it.. This is a beauty and at a great price. Whoever buys needs to look past the number on the front. And realized that after you pay the shipping? It's less than $450 what your paying for the saw. Super nice saws in the Classifieds today. . Good luck bud. I hope it sells.
FYI Shipping is about the same to AK as it is to many parts of the lesser 48. 20lbs from 46209 to 04785 (Maine) is $30.02 to 99645 it's $38.21 I have a 660 I'm looking to trade? Otherwise I have a guy that probably will buy it when he is back from the slope later this month and I'd be interested in your saw.
As long as shipping would be no more than what it would take to get it to Seattle, WA, then no any additional money would be required. I saw your current 660 trade ad, but hadn't seen the original one that apparently got deleted. I would possibly consider the trade if you're talking about a straight trade (I'm looking to move this saw without moving any cash) and could post here or PM me everything you can tell me about the 660 since I believe that information was lost. Thanks.
Okay, I'll pass then. I'm looking to move this saw, but not stick more money into a trade. Any trade I'd consider would involve no money exchange and I would need to come out ahead. My primary interest is to simply sell it.
Just in case anybody watching this thread is interested in getting a 261 ported, it has been said that an extra banana or two can be wrung out of the OE 261 (this saw) over the MS261C-M. Just sayin'. Carry on folks.
I have a ported original 261. I've heard the same thing, but have never had the opportunity to run it against a molested M-Tronic. I can tell you this; it's nice to be able to manually adjust the tune based on if I'm cookie cutting versus just cutting wood. The porter who did mine gave me RPM values that he recommended for each situation.
I'm just looking for a reliable limbing saw, stock is fine. OP yeah I can't take a $200 hit on the 660 when I'm already priced at under what I have into it. If it sells I'll get with you to buy your saw.
I have been looking for a 346xp but this is tempting...Hopefully you will sell it so I don't have to think about it.
Okay folks, I'm kind of impatient to move this saw since I have plans for the cash (which was my main motivation for abandoning the porting plans and selling it off). Problem is, I absolutely cannot net less than $450 so the best I can do in an effort to 'sweeten the pot' isn't much, but for some it may be a little bit of incentive. I originally listed the saw as $480 shipped, but how about $450 + the actual cost of shipping & insurance assuming it will be less than $30. I'm willing to ship USPS, UPS, or FedEx - whichever one is the lowest cost.
For those interested, this saw is about $600 new, plus tax. So the price of $480 (shipped) is a good price. Yes it has numbers engraved, BUT.. That is an obvious identifier for the new buyer (if it's ever stolen, lost, etc). And this is a New/Never fueled saw. So it's worth is still around the $600 mark.. Carry on...
I appreciate the assistance Dex. I had a member PM me a couple of days ago with some detailed information about selling prices on eBay and suggesting my price is too high. I had checked out the same info on the bay which is common protocol for me when buying or selling. While this member was correct in pointing out that one could get as good or better deal on eBay I explained that I believe there are others out there like me who are willing to pay the same or slightly more money to buy a saw from a fellow member instead of buying from a 'complete stranger' and further feeding the eBay machine... I have sold a lot of items on eBay - both small & large - but as of the past year or two I disagree with some of their policies and believe they're starting to throw some serious weight around and take advantage of sellers moving goods that are higher dollar. For that reason I very rarely buy or sell complete chainsaws on eBay anymore.
