I always thought MS meant magnum series, but apparently not. MS= Motosäge = Chainsaw FS= Freischneider = Line Trimmer BG= Blasgerät = Handheld Blower BR= Blasgerät Rückentragbar= Backpack Blower TS= Trennshleiffer= Cut Off Machine As far as the numbers switching around, what is the story on that?
Awesome! Of course they retain the German initials ..... The numbers used to represent the cubic inch displacement of the engine. Ie: an 046 was 4.6 cubic inches, a MS290 was 2.9 in cu etc and so on. It's still loosely setup that way but there are plenty of exceptions to the rule.
And they are counting up now. Building g on what MM said... we all know they use to be, for example 029.. now its ms290 the newest version is 291. The real confusing ones are when there basically the same engine but have different numbers. Not saying g this is the case but like 028/029
The 028 is a far cry from the 029. The 028 is cylinder on case design (Pro saw), while the 029 is a clamshell design.
I just picked those out of the sky. I am no expert. Thinking about it makes sens to the old even/pro saw thing. But was just picking similar number and displacement saws out.
Better example is the 028 vs the MS280. Two saws with a similar role but share little else other than color scheme.
What does the KM stand for? It's a Kombi Unit powerhead, but that one was left off the acronym list above.
I dunno. I have a Kombi unit, could have sworn it had an FSpower head. I'll have to check next time I'm out in the shed.
Only reason I know is I have a wife thats somewhat keeps up with entertainment news and she likes the top model shows. Otherwise this Nate (my name too) would beright there with you.
