Do any of you notice your stihl gas caps having a very slight leak?I noticed 2 of my saws with the new style caps that seemed to leak alittle gas out,its a very small amount and seems to happen when its colder temps.

What models of saws? The first version of 'flippy caps' on Stihl equipment had some problems. There were a couple of different construction of caps and some models have all out recalls on the caps and other were indicated for free replacement at a dealer should one come in with a leak. I know saws in the 1123 and 1127 series (of certain serial number ranges) can have the caps replaced for free at a dealer once per serial number. The original caps (on saws) were black and white and the most recent version of the cap is still black & white but has a black line through the white side (think from the center of the circle outward to the perimeter). I know that's not terribly clear, so just let me know if you'd like photos. Anyway, it might we worth calling your local Stihl dealer with the serial number(s) and ask if they're eligible for replacement.

Now, all that said, it is imperative to make sure the o-ring on the cap and the location where it seats on the saw are clean and free of debris. The bottom line is that no, they should not leak. It's either a bad cap or caused by debris. Even if they aren't eligible for replacement they're cheap to buy new ones and it certainly beats fuel leaks!

I'm not saying that there has never been a problem, but the only factory recall/update for flippy's that I am aware of did not include any chainsaws.

Its a 362 and 461... Never really seen it before with either saw and just recently both had some gas down the side from the cap.I took them both off and cleaned around the cap and fitting good and reseated them and it seems to be almost like a slow seaping from the cap.

Is it possible that the gas was really full when you closed the cap and some was forced out?

That's just a Stihl markin it's territory! To be honest I really don't like the flip caps why engineer something like that when screw on caps worked fine for years?

Sorry if I wasn't clear, the recall I'm aware of was with darn near every piece of equipment they sell that uses flippy caps other than chainsaws. I have no idea how far the 'free replacement' spreads though. The dealer I used to help out when the workload got too high told me about the replacements. It has to do with either the s/n of the saw or the letter injection molded into the bottom of the cap - maybe both? I want to say it's something like a "D" is eligible for replacement and the good ones are an "E" or something like that. I've personally received replacement flippy caps by a dealer based on model/serial number for a minimum of 12 saws, maybe more. They were all 1123 and 1127 saws. From what the dealers told me it was based on serial number and they had to check the number allowing only a one-time replacement for each.

It's been my experience that a poorly seated cap or one that had debris on the sealing surface seeped out around the perimeter. A bad cap (through design or user error) typically seeps around the center circle of the cap. Can you tell where yours are leaking from specifically?

It seems to be coming from the split down the middle of the caps,i think I'm gonna pick up a couple new caps this week .

My Stihl 390 flip caps leaked a little also. Dealer gave me more but still leaked slightly....especially if it turned over on its side, gas cap side, while hauling wood. All my saws now have screw caps....no leaking issues.

If all your Stihl flippy caps do is leak a little, be happy you got one of the good ones. At least they seat.

I've used numerous flippy cap equipped stihl saws and have never had any of the issues with them that so many describe.

I had trouble with one flippy cap that had about 100k miles on it. At least they don't swell up from corn liquor.
