I sure most of you have seen a FG2 bench mounted file guide, and a FG1 bar mounted file guide. I have both a FG1 and FG2.

I have never seen one like this though.

It does not look anything like my FG1. The upper part of it looks like my FG2, but the bottom does not, as it is built to mount on a bar, not on a bench.

Anyone ever seen one like it or know what it is called?

Only thing is says on it, is STIHL 5610 751 1400 A >Zn< Made in Germany.

Looks like that's the FG3. I wish the FG2 had those "chain guides" like that to keep the chain from moving around from side to side. I find myself having to inspect each cutter and re-clamp the same link several times in order to get the top plate to an even sharpness. The granberg sharpener had those, and I didn't think I liked them at the time, because I constantly needed to clean metal shavings out of the threads in the adjustment screws. But I'm wishing I had them now..

Looks like a square file could work in there :dex:

Thanks Shawn, I didn't know they had a FG3. Just did a google search and that's what it is.

With a little modification, it looks like it could work

I don't square file yet, so please correct me if I'm wrong. But isn't the main problem that you would also need the file to be held at a certain rotation angle, so the bevel is in the right place? I think Cut4fun posted a pic of one that had been modified for square filing.

The file needs to be held so that the top corner of the file is in line with the top corner of the chisel cutter. The guide has 3 axis that might need slight mods to make work, but it looks better, or easier to modify than the previous ones

In Maulheads picture, the file looks pretty close to a good orientation, just need to use the lower corner of either opening that holds the file and figure out a way to clamp it

I can file square with my g106 so I dunno why this one wouldn't work.

The FG2 has physical stops at 35 horizontal and 10 vertical. It look like this one probably has them as well. You'd need a lot more vertical angle right? It seems to have machine marks that would allow it to swing further. The granberg jig is still probably better to modify. I just wish it had the guide rod bushings and roller bearing stop that the stihl units have.

Can you share how? Did you need to modify the Grandberg? What file? Thanks!
