Bucked a small pile of 8’6” logs down to 16”. I bought this saw for this specific purpose, with the intention of being able to use all 25” of the bar to cut. My initial thought is “ :stacke: I cannot believe how much power this has over my 036’s”. I am used to cutting one at a time, I am amazed at how quick and easy the saw pulls the chain through. I am having the feeling of I am growing old too quick and smart too slow. I wish I would not have waited so long to buy this saw.
On my second tank. Really like the balance, it’s a strong runner. Pulls well when the bar is sank in the pile.
I am sure the bucking the pile will help with break in. I make a top to bottom cut, rev to clear the bar/chain let idle for a 10 seconds or so to cool. Shut down load the cut pieces into the tractor, repeat.
I stack wood in the bucket the same way. I've never seen anyone else do it like that. Now all of my wood is on pallets so I don't use the bucket.
Hang a 32" bar on it. That REALLY gobbles through a pile of logs fast. It will pull it . From the dogs out you will only be cutting 30" of wood. If you remember the brown log truck that Kristian Crozer was running a few years ago. The triple axle truck. With tri axle trailer. He would deliver 18 cord per load. I bucked a load @ 30" length for a boiler customer of mine here. With my 390 Husky with a 36" bar. It took me 6 hours total. Burned 2+ 1/2 gal of saw gas. Did another load with my 460 Stihl pull in a 36" bar and chain. In 71/2 hours. The time difference was mostly the crew pulling the cut wood away from the saw. A 25" Stihl bar is nice . Try a 28 and a 30" they are nicer for bucking .
