After doing a search and coming up empty, I'm looking for the members input on a stihl 041 that has recently come up for sale in my area. After looking at the pictures it does not seem to well used. I would like to scope the bore however. Also understand this model was one of the first av saws, so one would have to question as to how much vibration would one endure when running this vintage saw. Any pros/ cons would help me in this decision as this would be another play toy for cutting firewood.
I had an 041 Av 15 yrs or so ago. It was a good saw and had a lot of torque like many of the older, slower RPM saws had. The A/V was actually pretty good for the technology at that time. The main reason I moved to newer saws was the weight. The modern saws are just lighter and faster.
Scope the bore? pull the muffler and carb and look at the piston skirt. Look for vertical wear lines big concern is top 1/3 of the piston on the carb side for dirt ingestion. top of exhaust/ bottom of intake for piston would indicate lots or hard use
