I have an 031 AV that is from the original owner. Bar is original to the saw as well.

Saw runs great, but the recoil is broken. Saw needs new recoil, other than that, it's in really good condition.

    Asking $125 or B.O. + shipping.

    Thanks for looking

Price dropped to $100 plus shipping.

New fuel line and carb cleaned.

The saw does run good too. The recoil is the only issue.

    Dex,

Is the recoil needing to be replaced or is it just a spring, pawl, rotor or other minor issue?

Parts are available for these units new and used folks. I built an 031 last year and it is a fun saw to run, they don't get near enough credit IMO. Will run up to a 20" bar for sure.

I believe the recoil spring is broken, I tried to rewind and tighten it and it just keeps slipping after getting so tight.

The saw is forum member Joshmain's Father's saw. He bought the saw new, and everything is original, but the chain that's on it and the fuel line l. . I can take pics of cylinder and get compression#'s, if anyone wants them.

I would be willing to meet you, if you wanted to look at it.

Sounds like a busted spring to me. Cheap and easy fix.

Somebody could be into a great firewood saw for under $150, less if you live close enough to pick it up!

Is that a hand guard or chain brake? Great price.

I have a solution. One of you buy Dex's 031 and then I'll list mine. ;)

If I didn't buy the 034 last week and a husky I would be all over this saw.

My first saw was an 031AVE that my FIL gave me (non-runner). It needed a new coil. I gave it to my BIL a few years ago. It was/is a great saw.

And with a little paint you can make it look like this again! Fixed up 6 of these last year (2 early ones like this and 4 later ones) and never want to see another one again!

    031.a.jpg

The OP's saw looks to be a "Middle" one. It has the later handle assembly separate from the tank, but has the earlier 2 screw starter. The points ignition and split gas tanks are the real weak links in these saws.

I gave that one to my buddy who bought his first "country" place over by Medina as a house warming gift. I helped him drop his first "big tree" with it last week, a big soft maple. I noticed something about that early model too that I had missed before ............ it does not have the plastic chain catch on the side! We didn't have any problems, but I never noticed that even while painting them up! Must be getting old. . . . . . . . . . . . 59 next month!

$100 sure seems like a good price for that one of yours. I sold the rest of mine painted up for just south of $200/ea.
