Recently picked up a used, ported Stihl 026 on market place. The saw looked used but not excessively used. After running a few tanks thru the saw it developed a high idle and die, so thinking it was developing an air leak. Pulled the saw down and replaced the crank seals, impulse line, gas line and checked the intake boot. Also checked the cylinder for scoring (none found). The base gasket looked fine also. I’m hoping the new carb that is on order will repair this saw. But I'm not real hopefull. Also pulled the current carburetor apart to which the diaphragm and the internals all looked good. So with all that being said I’m at a loss as what to do next. Has anyone experienced anything like this.
How about the gas tank vent? Is it running long enough to create a vac and starving for fuel? Can you run the saw on an angle and leave the gas cap loose w/ just a tad of mix in it?
