question to the stihl people about a recently acquired 024. I am not shure if this is a 024 super or just a plain 024 as the cover just has stihl 024 on it, and in my check over on this I have noticed a tiny bit of play when you rock the flywheel back and forth as if the rod maybe a bit loose? This is soposeto have a new stihl top end, but I don't believe the cylinder is stihl as there are no markings or numbers on it, but it is new. Is it acceptable to have a bit of play? It seems to run fine so Maybe I will take the jug off to see if it is something in the top end, or maybe I should just run it as I don't have much in it right now.

If the flywheel wiggles, the main case bearings are bad and it shouldn't be used until they're replaced

It is when I wiggle the flywheel in rotation, and I hear a bit of a click, not up and down play, or side to side play, the case bearings seem fine, I believe it is in the rod, or maybe wrist pin. Maybe I should take the jug off and check out the pin, it is soposeto have a new piston, jug, rings, and pin.

It's normal for it to have some side to side play. Up and down play is the big no no. If you're hearing noises when turning it over by hand or it sounds strange when running, I'd pop the jug off and take a quick look.

Tore the saw apart, and the wrist pin bearing has a tiny bit of play but the rod bearing on the crank is good. Who ever put the new top end didn't put a new wrist pin bearing in it, so I have ordered a new bearing, cylinder gasket, muffler gasket, and new fuel line and impulse line just because I have the tank off.
