I just read a post on Facebook where a guy was told to get rid of his chimney cap because all it was good for was keeping the rain out when stove was not in use. :picard:

My thoughts: Don't follow that advice! The chimney cap is also a spark arrestor required by code in some areas and insurance companies.

Boo! The stupid screen that is sometimes called a spark arrestor is optional and prone to clogging.

Interesting. Mine has a spark arrestor but is not a screen and doesn't clog. I don't believe it was optional either. I would never not have one. My ins company was happy too

What does your non-screen spark arrestor look like? Most brands use a screen of various sizes of mesh, some large and some small. The same brands often sell the caps with or without this screen. I do agree that you must use a cap to prevent rainwater from accumulating.

This is the one I have. I always thought the ones with mesh screens were for birds. LOL.

Hmmm. After doing further research I guess there is a mesh screen that can go with this. I don't see the point of a mesh screen as a spark arrestor though. The deluxe cap works great without it. I and my insurance thought it was all-in-one. Oh well. LOL
