Got the woodshed at the camper full and stacked tight. I know it's cheating but I couldn't pass it up. A water pipeline is going in south of me and they have a pile of free supports from inside the pipe that are single use non treated 4"x4"x6' syp. The pile is roughly the size of a 2 car garage. I just can't pass on a scrounge like that. 20240922_120231.jpg

IMG_3870.jpeg I get A fair about of dimensional lumber from work, it ain’t cheating. To be honest if I really wanted to crawl in and out of the 40 yd dumpster on a regular basis I could probly heat for the winter with what gets tossed out.

There’s a pallet mill near home and they have a truck scale. It used to be absolutely dirt cheap, it’s still really affordable, I think $35 a ton. When the snow starts coming down I always see pickups driving around full of mill ends.

Here is the road view of the pile.

There used to be a sawmill near Huntland TN that cut up timbers for the Railroad industry. You could get a truckload of cutoffs for $20. I never bought them for firewood, but did give them to friend who needed them to build a barge.

About 10 years ago I had a scrounge like that. I first said nope. But then, once I scraped the crud off the wood it turned out to be hard maple! Wound up with about 2 cord of it. Good stuff, I take it again if the opportunity came around again.
