Here is one thing I toss around in my head. Stihl or husky oil has stabilizer in it. But for example the one gallon mix bottles is the same volume as an oil with out stabilizer right? How is this? Is the stabilizer down on the molecular level? How can you add a stabilizer product but it not increase volume?
. Here is the quote saved in the software from the other thread. But I never said it there, I was going to say make it its own thread!! And here I see it 10 mins later!
Stabil brand mix rate is 1 oz per 2.5 gallons, a rate of 1 : 320. So it's not displacing much oil. Do I get a cookie?
Great question Clem.... I then wondered if the "stabilizer" was the same as an ethanol additive thus negating the need to use an additional product.
But any addative would add volume unless its bonded to the oil molecules at such a small size as to not really increase their volume. You can't have X ounces of oil without stabilizer and then have the exact same ounces of oil plus stabilizer? Least those are my thoughts.
I hate this product segment. Too much snake oil and secrecy about how something ACTUALLY works, so it can't be that complicated. What does "stabilizer" actually do? How does product X actually combat ethanol related problems. Will Marvel Mystery Oil really boost libido? These are questions that need to be answered and not on a product label that just screams "Guaranteed to do -- Something." People ask me all the time which stabilizer works the best and I really don't have a good answer. I use Startron, I have had no trouble with my fuel. I have used other products that work, and some that seem to do nothing.
I try to use fresh gas Not sure all the additives do that much I try to kep reasonably fresh mixed gas, 40:1 mix, with gas not over a couple months old if in a vented tank, like a saw/weed whacker ... & not gonna run for a while . I drain it. Add fresh out of a sealed can .
Thought of this last night. Unless the actual formulation of oil stabilizes the final product? Then no increase would occur. Similar to sea foam. You can run it in anything and is basically a lubricated mix. In the outboard forums they always say to run a heavy dose of sea foam to decarb the engine. Think they said like a can to a half a gallon and run the chit out of it then plug your normal fuel back up and run some more.
