I didn’t do a great job as I was hesitant to disassemble other than removing from the stove to vacuum. I dripped some 3-1 on the axle and turned it while it spun some. Should I be concerned about an increase in a tinny hiss from the blower? I did remove a lot of dust from the fins on the fans, and the throughput of the fan has increased dramatically with the cleaning.
How loud is it...does it seem like there are parts touching/rubbing? FYI, if you have an air compressor, air works the best to clean those blower fins
No compressor for this city mouse, but yeah I might even pick up a can of duster though. It is not real loud, just louder than it was. I thought maybe all of the dust may have dampened the sound previously.
Mine is a double blower type and I removed and pressure washed all the dirt off maybe twenty years ago. 3 in one oil on the bearings like you did then put it back in place and ran it for a few minutes to get rid of any moisture. This was during the summer. There was never any strange noise that I recall. I hope to do it again maybe this summer 'cause it's looking pretty grungy with all the pets and dirt we have here.
I have had great luck with Breakfree CLP, have used it in my small bronze bushing fans. You can find it at Walmart in the firearm cleaning area.
I saw a small bottle that comes with some gun picks that could be handy to get some hair wrapped around the axle. Think it would be safe if some got on the wire wrap for the electric motor? I didn’t want to cause any shorts.
If you mean the copper motor windings, then yes, oil and/or grease left on the windings over time will break down the insulation and could cause a short...
No, the motor is on the end and there's a space between each blower. I can't recall if it has one long shaft or if there's a coupler between the two blowers.
