I'm not sure where to post this.

Has anyone split their baseboards into 2 zones? I'd like to get the bedrooms on a separate thermostat. I saw a clip on This Old House a few years ago where they installed a wireless set up and put the new thermostat in the master bedroom.

Has anyone done this and how much did it cost to have a plumber set it up? I'm looking to see if this is something I want to do now or put it off until after a few other things are upgraded on the house.

    I've done it several times.
    The challenges are:
does your boiler support multiple zones. If yes that saves money!
how to get the return lines and the new supply lines to the separate Zone wherever the bedrooms are.
Meaning if you're all in one zone at some point you have to cut that zone and add a return back to the boiler and then run a new supply to the start of the second Zone. Then the real question comes in where to put it how to hide it excetera excetera that's where your money goes. If goes easy paying some one 750, if not 4x that!

I was considering adding a hydronic heat loop in the basement going to a coil/fan unit.

I didn't want to tie into the existing supply lines at the boiler and re-work it. I found a three way zone valve that I could swap out with the regular zone valve. I believe check valves would have to be installed on the zones on the returns. It would be a simple solution for my application.

I'm pretty sure those valves are what they used on the This Old House clip I saw. I can't find the clip though. It was an all wireless set up.
