Had not had the welder fired up in a while and been wanting to do this for a while. Added an extra barrier over the engine and an extension to the factory log rack or whatever they call it. I stood in both and held my 220 pounds so we should be good. Hopefully will help production when I start splitting in a couple weeks. Highs in 70-80 and some 50 lows in the next week or so , I am soooo ready.
Never failed to have a split or round roll off and have to go pick it up. Problem solved, and expanded metal rack should keep the engine safe from large debris. Had a fire once from wood pieces falling down by engine and exhaust, not a great scenario!
That reminds me of the time I forgot about my wet gloves in rotation drying on the engine! Still can remember the smell...
I went from a splitter without any sort of table to a splitter with one and it is like night and day. I guess if I had realized it was so nice to have one I would have built one for my old machine.
Yeah , hard to imagine not having one now. Same with my log lift, made it work without for years and years but man I couldn’t imagine not having it now.
After seeing jo191145's splitter with log lift in action i'd be nice to have. Maybe on a future splitter?
I put two of the factory log catchers on my county line 25 ton. Put them side by side on the engine side. The back one is over the top of the engine and I like that it keeps logs from falling on the engine. Thinking about building a table the same height and on wheels to be able to stage more rounds at one time. Drag them off the table into splitter with a hookeroon. Right now I position the splitter a couple feet behind the dump trailer and can heft pretty good size round from the trailer to the log catcher with the box partially raised.
i had a similar idea, a table to stage logs on and roll to splitter. IBC totes on the other side of the splitter to pitch wood in to.
