I have quite a bit of small splitter bits from the maple tree that are just too good to toss out. They are perfect size for starting the mud oven. I took two beat up tomato cages and dropped one into the other. I aligned them so the vertical pieces were divided evenly around. The long pieces that sitck into the ground were bent at a 90 degree to form a bottom. I used three sections of jack chain hooked to the top rims of the cages. These were hooked to a longer piece of chain screwed to the frame of the oven roof. So now this hanging basket is high and dry and I can take and add pieces as needed. This just sits in the breeze and should dry out those small pieces sooner. The larger wood pieces are up in the rack in the rafters. It holds just over a 5 gallon bucket worth, closer to 7. The bigger pieces keep the smaller ones from falling out.
How many of these hanging baskets have you got? It's a cool idea...just not sure it would work for me, not much room to hang anything here
Just one. I was thinking two jumbo cages would hold even more. Smaller splitter pieces tend to end up in leaf piles or raked up with other yard debris. This dry location right next to the outdoor oven is the perfect location. I was thinking more along the lines of the baskets used to hold golf balls at driving ranges.
LOVE the idea...although I could see myself turning around suddenly and poking myself in the head. But that is me.
