What's the interval for changing this fluid?

How about the filter change interval?

Anyone know the capacity of fluid from memory?

IIRC there are some filters that will cross reference from napa or autozone. Anyone have a part # and store reference for this?

My fluid and filter are original. It is probably 5 years old (maybe 6 or 7?) and has split at least 15-20 cords on this original fluid.

Methinks I should probably get to changing this stuff before it "changes itself" by smoking my pump. I'm getting ready to run another 3 cord thru it or so very soon.

I think capacity is just under five gallons-- mine is a speeco, but same basic splitter.

We change filters on our farm equipment but I can't think of a time, other than if it got milky, where we changed the hydraulic oil in any of our equipment.

I only change hydraulic fluid if it is milky or brown. I have changed my filter once in five years. I "thought" it was a little over five gallons. I split +- 10 full cords a year and the fluid is still clear, so it's good to go. NAPA 1551 I believe is the filter #

Answering my own thread.....does this count as talking to myself? :) Yep....I'm crazy.

My lazy azz finally Googled the manual up.

    Answers as follows:

Initial break in hydro filter change: 25hrs

After that 100 hrs on fluid and filter both.

    Manual wants iso46 hydro fluid.

Capacity max is 6.5 gallons on a dry system.

Depending on temp outside, ATF and lower viscosity hydro fluids are permitted and actually encouraged.

Motor oil used is 5w30 iirc and holds .7 qts or around 20 oz.

    Hope this helps others.

Hydraulic oil is going to run some where between 80-100 bucks for a 5 gallon pail and you'll use a little more than that each change. A new 2 stage pump costs around 200. I'd be hard pressed to spend 120 bucks on oil every 100 hrs.

I will tell you that my White 22 ton has only had filter changes and a little oil added when it leaked out of the breather while it was parked on a hillside. I bought it new in 1992. Still going strong today and have split more than 12 cords a year.

Thank you for the reply but you should know this. Maybe it's different in your locale. Anyway....read on.

Tsc here has hydro by the 5gal bucket for $35. Regular price...not even on sale. Its even Less $ if you want a lesser quality oil.

I'd look for a new oil guy if I were you. That guy is feeding his retirement from you!

I wouldn't be afraid of going over 100 hours on oil change. Splitters see plenty idle time.
There's deals on oil now. Look around . I just bought a boat load of hydro for $25/pail free shipping. It was cheaper by the pail than drum ! :loco:

100 hours? Cat recommend 4,000 hours on the 988 I used to run. I'll grant you the the system was bigger (by a lot) but still.
