Today was a good day. Got a few loads done and stacked. Ordered a council tool 6lb maul and a ct pickaroon to replace my broken axe which i used as a pick. Baileys is out of stock so who knows when they will ship. Once my pile is done i hope to get back into hand splitting. Added another 16 ft row infront of a stack. Leveled some dirt and set some pallets on some stolen wall blocks from the side of the house.
They'll probably ship it tomorrow. They just wanted to charge you twice for the shipping is all. They used to do that to me all the time before I took my business elsewhere. Sorry for the rant, I really hate them. Great looking stacks - looks like you got a lot of shagbark waiting in the wings too!
Thats the farmers woods. I touch nothing standing and healthy. Hes pretty cool about going back there and dropping standing dead or storm damage. Dont want to ruin that! I have only cut a handful from behind my house as i usually run across enough yard trees or farmers dropping acres. Shagbark has probably made up 80% of my firewood the past 3 winters. Zero complaints stuff burns like a champ and keeps the nc30 still hot after 8 hrs of sleep.
Thats some nice looking work! I do have a question....Do you find the rows of splits dry well enough being back to back on a row of pallets? I have considered doing mine the way you are but I didn't know if I'd get enough air circulation where the splits meet on the inside. Tell me what you think
My wife grew up with shar peis. We have 2. I didnt know much about em she wanted them. Been great dogs and he never leaves my side when im outside. They do have an aggressive side when new people are around but out here they make for nice security as they are usually outside all day even when not home They do have some large faces haha
First time i have stacked on pallets like this. Usually the ground and piles is the way i did it. Until i started getting involved with forums. The rows actually have a decent gap betwen them i cut 16-20" rounds so i cant stack em real tight and 3 rows like some do. Im suree they will be fine
Like the pallets up on blocks. I would just maximize the gap as much as possible, overhang the pallet a little if needed and you should be fine. Next you need to start thinking about covering it! That's a debatable need with some folks but I always try.
Hope getting the pallets off the ground will keep them from rotting out in a couple seasons. These stacks wont be covered. Oncee im 3 or more years ahead i will cover the stuff that will sit out for longer times. Eventually some trees will come down to the right of the garage and a steel carport will go up.
When you give him a treat your whole hand ends up in his mouth. Hes relentless when it comes to food.
Wow... cancelled the hookaroon purchase. I have an old crushed concrete rake im going to makes my own out of. They cancelleed it and turnedd around and charged me twice. I blame you! Haha hopefully refund me soon as i sent an opinionated email
