    But I bought 2 cords.

Im trying to be just a scrounger as my hoard grows but as I look at what I have seasoned for my 2nd year of burning, I think I'll be short this year. (Next year Im in good shape)

So off I went looking for a seasoned cord. Everything I saw advertised as seasoned on CL was fresh cut . Friend gave me contact of a guy who does tree service and sells firewood in fall and winter. Asked if what he has is seasoned and he laughed, said he has close to 100 seasoned cords :bug:.

So today he delivered, mix of hardwood. (Im pulling the oak out and stacking that seperate.) It is seasoned. Son stacked a cord while I was at work. Looks like at least 1.5 cord left in pile. Paid $200.00/ cord, split and delivered.
Not ideal but cheaper than fuel oil.

Please dont take my scrounge card away.:)

No need to take the card away, I’ve bought wood a few times now and found other sources for free. It’s a game of give and take for some and sometimes just paying a small amount, pays dividends later. Your preparation is what’s important. The best you’re doing is what’s best for you, no shame in that and scrounge at what you can for later anyways! The stuff you will burn this year will make up for it and soon you’ll find yourself replacing what you burned if you keep scrounging. It’s like money in the bank, burn some one day, get enough hoarded in one day to last you a month. Some of us here have had to do the exact same that you have and it becomes part of the past so worry not my fellow hawdah. :D:yes:

Much much smarter to burn dry wood so you made a great choice to let your wood dry another year.

All about staying warm and you're still burning wood!

I had this thought this morning about having to buy, not sure if I will have to yet. Our furnace went out and a few days to get the parts so I've been burning a lot more in October than I thought I would have to.

When thinking about it this morning there is definitely a pride thing and some mild shame in not hoarding/working hard enough. Of course not all "seasoned" wood is sub 20% when you buy. Glad you got such a fantastic deal!

No shame in buying if you need it. I'd rather buy wood than fuel oil/propane. Remember some people buy log loads of wood, so no difference. Yours was just bucked and split already.

At about $160 a cord seasoned by actual volume, that's a pretty good deal to get yourself caught up.

You should ask him if he sells it in log length too. Free scrounged wood is fantastic, but sometimes life is just too busy, and delivered wood at $75-100 a cord still let's you keep your man card.

Good choice to make sure you have enough good, dry wood to last the winter.

    :fire:

Scrounging is hit or miss, surely can't expect ya to go without wood heat because of a slow season.

No shame. And yes, it is better than buying oil or propane. Shoot, I've even bought wood in the past. Sometimes you just have to.

Scrounging here is tough. Rarely is there anything but pine. Or poplar/aspen.

I've had to buy logs. I've gotten free logs but had to pay to have them moved.

Everyone's gotta have a hoard somehow.
Biobricks and pellets fall under that umbrella of hoard IMO as well.

I did the exact same thing Biddleman , when we first moved here. Bought 3 cords. Was too busy "moving" to even think about dropping trees yet. Gave me a jump start that helped a lot.

You know the difference between green and seasoned. That’s good enough. I don’t think there’s any other criteria.
Hey I bought a pallet full of bio bricks my first year with a cat stove. They didn’t even banish me to the pellet stove forum LOL
