https://www.dailymail.co.uk/yourmoney/article-15535563/heating-bill-deep-freeze.html Just swinging through the morning news. We woodburners can revel in a warm house & low utility bill. Over the years I try to get low draw bulbs in lights used a fair bit. I also do appreciate some exercise dealing with firewood. We all intrinsically love cutting with a well tuned, sharp saw. The MI Gov has been grousing for years of shutting down that pipeline under the Mackinac bridge, backing off recently. Seems like common sense, more homes need more energy. Another thing are mandates for renewables, effecting us here in WI. It sounds nice, but wind & solar can get very expensive. Great weather for cutting firewood today.
So all the energy efficient appliances were just a ruse. Data is the new Spice if you know what I mean.
Another ruse is electric is always best, cleanest. And then just when you go more with electric, rates go up. So many just simply blame the power companies, when they are often shackled by govt regulation and mandates. Then look at rate increases, often must be approved by a board. Some deeper dives for anyone interested. Wisconsin
Yes, it has been a cold winter and it will cost more. Life happens. People make choices. I made my choice shortly after I got married in 1962. I wonder how many dollars I have saved over the years with lower electric bills and warm wood heat. On the electric, most folks seem to struggle with $100+ bills. I cringe if I get one over $40. I do spend nearly $200 per year on propane but can't complain.
Our "reduced" electric bills are going to be paid for by a rate increase. WTF. Just another way for the rich to rob the poor here in Massachusetts. My electric rate here in SE MA is $0.4587 / kWh. ($40.83 /89 kWh) Yeah, my electric bill is low compared to many - it would be 34.6ยข /kWh without the ten dollar customer charge. So us frugal weaners pay more. Thanks a lot. And yeah, it is mandates not the electric company, although they are complicit but they have to pinch their noses and do business with the Boston politicians . Wood heat is the best. Long live wood heat.
