A neighbor had a fair sized oak taken down and gave most of it to the neighborhood. The larger pieces, averaging 17" to 19" in diameter and 32" in length, were left by the side of his driveway. I stopped today and ask and he said take it, so I did, with the help of another friend.

Being a 'yard tree' I just hope I don't find any nails when I cut them in half.

That's nice ! 32 inch would work perfect ; at least for me anyway , cut in half make 16 inch , doesn't get much better than that.
17 - 19 inch isn't a bad size to deal with and should get a decent amount of splits from those.

    Great score.
