This wee Redhead was waiting for me when i got home. Brand new, still Made In Germany (2014)... I think i have to get used to these new kind of brake handles. . . I like zhis. As i always wanted a Dolmar 7900 but their hard to find. So i figured out i could date her cousin from the south. Does anyone of you own one? Any opinion?
We did a bit of a clean up at a buddys property, as promised all Oak, it was a bunch of allready downed trees from the last couple of storms we had uphere. The Saw works fine, its operator has to get to know here alot more... The Stock Chain (Oregon) let me down, brand new and 1st time in use - i should have sharpen it before. So thats my fault, wont happen again. I usually have Dolmar chains and never had a Problem with them. Anyway it was a good day, being out and about - cutting wood and not regreting buying this southern german beauty. Solo 681 and just for a comparison a Dolmar-Sachs 112.
Solo 681 is a good looking saw. They perform well also. I think they are no longer available in the united states.
I've got a 665 with a 681 top end and I've been pretty happy with it. I've used mine mostly on tree service jobs here on the coast and doing some volunteer work through the local Rotary. The nylon mesh air filter isn't much good in the rain or wet conditions- I've been wondering if a pre-filter cover would help with that. Parts are hard to come by here in the States now since Solo USA doesn't deal in chainsaws anymore. I've had some discussions with their Virginia Beach office about importing parts from Europe and they've been helpful with that. There's also a seller on Ebay Germany that sells a lot of parts and I've stocked up from them.
Ive been happy so far with it - cant say much about the filter though. As it supposed to be pretty much the same as a Dolmar 7900 - have you heard of anybody who put the Dolmar Filter into the Solo? Yeah spare parts gonna be an issue at some point, as Solo got bought by Alko in 2014 - they guaranteed to have spare parts available for 10years. That goes as far as i understood for the saws made in Sindelfingen, Germany. The Dealer i got her from seemed quite helpfull , so incase parts are needed i could ask him if hes intrested in overseas bizness. I bought a brakeband with the saw straight away, because the ones for my old Dolmars are hard to come by and you pay alot of money for a used part.
Any work done on that one J? The worked over 665 was pretty skippy. This chassis Solo just feels right.
