So Long Old Friend

Just sold my MS290. Owned the saw since 2010 and have cut a LOT of wood with it. It was pretty much the only saw i used until 2 1/2 years ago when i got my 460. It owed me nothing and the only problem i ever had with it (other than basic maintenance) was the clutch bearing going.
The $200 will go to either porting a current saw or a CAD replacement.

In all seriousness, it's hard to let a trusted tool go, it would be like taking the faithful dog to the pound.

 

I got $200 for the saw and the bar is the new owners "problem" although i religiously flipped it and cleaned the edges. It was still good despite its look.

 

Don't you have a 461 Brad? 200 towards porting would be hard not to do

 

How many cords would you estimate in the 10 years?

 

a 460, but would port the 261 first as i use it most of the time. Missed out on an 038 Magnum recently. The guy i bought the 028 from back in April has one as well, but doesnt know if it is a Magnum or not.
Member here has a 361 with less than 20 tanks of gas through it he wants to sell me.
The dilemmas of CAD

 

Thats a tough one. The bar in the pic is the original. Maybe someone here could guess based on that.

 

Maybe, but IMHO chain maintenance greatly affects bar wear, even the paint's wear.

 

261 is the better choice. I thought of that after I posted.

 

Curious whether that was the clutch side crank bearing or clutch bell needle bearing?

 

Mine started making noise recently, I was going to replace it, but when I pulled the clutch off I realized that the bearing was fine, just dry...a dab of grease took care of 'er.

 

Mine seized up one day while cutting. Placed the saw on the ground and while idling it stalls. Went to start and it had seized. Didnt know what it was at the time. Later found the retaining "washer" on the ground. Did some research and found out its a relatively common failure. Think it was less than $10 for the bearing and a dab of grease.

 

needle i think. Little drum shape with needle bearings if memory serves me correct.

 

Good to see somebody else also get the full life out of a chain.

 

Wasnt much meat left. Ill use them til almost nothing left to file. Just wouldnt cut any hard dead wood.

 

If you get anything ported make sure you only do a woods port.

i'll let Mag Craft answer that,but be aware the 361 had a couple different cylinders and performance gains are night and day from one to the other.

 

This is a 261 that may get ported. Buying a 361 in the near future.

 

they both are lethargic....261 not being quite as bad as 361.....361's are very disappointing stock
