We got about 8-10 inches of wet, dense, heavy snow where I'm at in southern NH overnight. Got up at 3:50am to snowblow the driveway for my wife who has to leave for work at 6am. Early on the left auger shear bolt broke making it a very tough job since I didn't have any spares. Has anyone ever tried those impeller kits you see guys doing on youtube and other sites? They're supposed to make the snow trow a lot further and keep the chute from ever getting clogged. btw: I have an Ariens Deluxe 28. It's a decent machine and only a year old but if I can make it better with an impeller kit I might do that.
I haven't seen the impeller kit but...... a helpful trick to keep wet heavy snow from sticking in the chute is a good coating of Pam cooking spray.
Any silicone spray will help too. On a machine that new, I wouldn't be drilling into augers and such. My ariens snowblower is only a couple years old, 2 or is it 3 now. I have no reason to feel that it needs modifying.
YES! I have a 2001 Ariens Deluxe 24 with the impellar kit installed. The installed pads take up the quarter inch gap in the impeller housing. Excellent upgrade and this thing will throw the slushy mess that most machines will clog on. I'd be counting down the days until the warrantee was up and then do the install. The only byproduct that will turn some folks off is that the paint inside the impellar housing will turn to clean steel as the pads wear in.
I have a cheapy ariens (i think 528) with the clarence impeller kit installed. I've had it on for about 6-7 years now. It has made a huge improvement. My first year I was out snowblowing and the town plow came by and pushed a huge mound of snow at the end of my driveway. I started snowblowing that pile and it was flying over the power lines. Since i live on a dead end road, the plow truck comes back on the other side of the road. they see me blowing snow a mile high and they stop to ask me what kind of hellbeast snowblower do i have! LOL. You will find conflicting info on the clarence kit. some say its awesome. some are concerned about the gearbox and extra wear. I havent found any extra wear on my blower. Installation was a MAJOR PITA. you have to drill 2 holes in the end of each impeller blade to mount the kit on each blade. to get the right spot on my particular blower, I went through 2-3 drill bits and i used them with my cordless drill connected by one of those flexible shafts they sell at depot. The ones you would normally buy for driving screws. I would do it again because even though i was sore the next day from spending so much time working at oddball angles, the soreness is long gone and the kit is still serving me well.
