Yup, you have to learn how to drive all over again during the first snow...every year. The ones in the ditch just don't get it!
I am the ONLY known sportscar to get up the steep mountain road at my previous residence of 20 years. I made it home when 4x4's became stuck! Rapped it up in 2nd gear on the steep switchback and after the fishtail I coasted into the driveway 1982 Toyota Supra 5spd manual tranny, RWD. Straight 6. Long gears. Nuff said. (miss that car.....)
I'll never forget the day we had maybe 8" of snow but it packed quite hard. I was driving a little Chevy Sprint, with summer tires. Neighbor driving his pickup trying to get to work. I could see several places where he had stopped to shovel. I told him if I could get around him I'd break track for him. He scoffed. Next time he slid a bit sideways I went around him then backed up to him. Said, "Follow me!" He did. When we got to the corner where snow plows had gone through he told me if I ever told anyone about that he's shoot me! Hey, I got him out of a jam!
Looking back last year, Maine says goodbye to fall, digs out from brutal storm Nov.3ed Maine digs out of brutal storm, and then in 2011 we had a Nor'eater before Halloween. That's just a month from now! And to think the leaves haven't even turned yet!
I'm so ready for snow. However; I have this sneaky feeling that my snowblower will get little no action this winter. Really hope I am wrong.
Yea Have a BIL up there. Roads were closed, He had to walk to school & pick up one of their granddaughters , couple miles. He brought her home on a sled. Got lots of "The Greatest Grandpa" points !!!!!!! Few flakes here, but warmed to rain for the last 3 days. Still raining Warm enough it's melting the snow we had on the local mtns.
yup, my first car was 67 camaro convertible, all torque went to every ski mtn in vermont. it was fine until trucks were sideways in road you had to keep moving. stopped doing it cause salt on road were killing it.
ditto, not heavy rain here but steady since Thursday evening, not expected to stop for a few days either
Lots of rain headed our way but it mostly appears to be breaking up long before it gets here. It appears we won't get much if anything. Temperature in 60's and looks like it will stay there for several days with maybe a couple days in the 50's. No frost or freeze predicted yet but that could change. Lots depend on if we have cloud cover or not at night and especially really early am.
Been raining here since last night, and sprinkled on and off all day so far. We hit the forecast high about 10 this morning and it's been dropping ever since. Forecast just changed again. I'm gonna start forecasting the weather. Put my head out the door to see if it's raining or whatever, then check the thermometer and report my findings. Do it again in 15 minutes........all day. Seems to be what happens...........
raining here now and 66 degrees. Cold front coming in and supposed to get down to upper 40's at night.... it's fall around here.
Still no rain here Dave. It appeared we would get quite a bit but all breaking up before it gets here.
The weather map showed a whole bunch of your area getting hit pretty hard. Guess their radar is giving false positives. Starting to look like we might actually be clearing soon.
