Been packing down the trails. Still a lot of snow in the woods. Temps are starting to sneak above freezing but with little sun. Yesterday light rain. I knew that wouldn’t help anything in the woods. ATV was struggling for traction in the wet snow empty. It won’t be pulling logs home unless it freezes up again.
Mud season promises to be intense this year. Had this pile of oak and ash logs near the entrance to my processing area and it’s the muddiest area of all. This year I intend to leave the splitter in the processing area tarped over. I can always access the woods from another spot but not with the splitter.
So I figured I’d start this year with these logs before the mud arrives. Didn’t fare too well LOL

Took everything the winch had to break this little chunk loose. They’re still frozen.

    Finally got it

Then I got stuck. Yanked it out with the truck. While it was there I plowed some of the snow out of the way.

Next log wouldn’t budge. They are propped up on one side sitting on an old foundation. Other end is a very old concrete floor. Even with some air underneath I couldn’t break it loose. Snapped the winch rope. I had enough fun for one day. :)

We had rain here today for hours. Mud season is in fact intense. Hate it.. :headbang:
It's no fun when you're breaking stuff.

Breaking things is my superpower LOL
The rope is no big deal. It’s a wear item and was scheduled to be cut back anyway. Was a good excuse to quit for the day tho.

We now have bare ground except in the woods and that isn't very deep now. Cold starts settling in again today.

Valiant effort Joe! :salute: Too deep, wet and muddy for my liking, plus a few weeks of cabin fever has gotten me out of shape!:emb: Guessing it'll be a while to get that TOH!

Gonna be interesting for the next few weeks should I start hoarding again. Kinda wished I went more BTW in December, but we never know what Winter will bring. Most empty racks and storage I've ever had. Need 8-10 cords for general cordage plus a few more for bundle wood plus some BL for good measure.

Yeah we haven’t seen snow like this since 2017. And it’s hanging around too. Would’ve been a good year to own a snowmobile, hoardin not so much.

Only mud I’ve seen is the grease on the sparse grass areas that I keep plowed. I just know it’s coming and I’m not looking forward to it :)
Got a nice layer of ice last night and 8-12” more snow forcast for Sunday night. Yay,,,,,,,,
