I was out for an afternoon drive with my 7 year old and spotted a small pile of wood dumped roadside. At first I thought black birch but was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be young black cherry. Close by I also found a pile of concrete pavers. I don’t know what I need them for, but I needed them. I’m sure some can relate Also nearby I had to swerve to avoid this. Looks like someone had a rough night
Nice on all accounts. I knkw you wouldn't do it, neither would I, but that car in the ditch just begs for some sorta attention. Evidence of a party, or hanky-panky while the driver is away. Make them wonder what they did and who with, after they crashed..... Best, Sca
At first I thought an elderly person tried turning around and got stuck, then called for a ride home from a relative. But the back of the car was plastered with stickers that screamed “college aged kid into Bernie and micro beers” alongside the obligatory COEXIST sticker. If they were sitting in the car I might have offered a hand, but to me it looked like they fled the scene many hours before. That particular road has been there since at least the early 1800s, and hasn’t changed much. Very little traffic.
The last “score” from our afternoon adventure. On the way home we passed a Chinese chestnut that had dropped a bunch of burs in the road. We stopped and grabbed a few. These had to be the largest I’ve come across. After getting them home and prying them open, I’m led to believe these might be a certain commercial cultivar called Colossal, named for its size. I’m going to have to plant a few in the spring. They’ll be a nice addition to the American Chestnuts I’m already growing.
Nice little score. Stack and forget type of wood...no splitting. Those pavers make great top weights, leveling blocks etc.

This is funny. A year later to the day I unintentionally did another Sunday drive in the same area and came home with similar things. Today: 2 cinder blocks, a mailbox (mine is on its last legs) a few black walnuts, and 3 dead/barkless ash logs I’m saving for milling.
How did you decide that the owner of the mailbox had finished using it? Are you sure it hadn't just fallen over?
