A coworker asked me of we could drop an oak for him. He is fixing to build an auto shop and said it had been dropping some limbs. We stopped by late Sunday afternoon from looking at another job anout taking down 2 pecan trees.
This is what we walked up too...:eek: 0205231631a.jpg
    Just happened to have a couple :saw:with us...:whistle::whistle: 0205231639.jpg
    Going down... 0205231642.jpg
    Landed safely 0205231642b.jpg
Nice that the trunk stayed off the ground... 0205231644_HDR.jpg
MS461 w/28" bar did the trick. I had the 32" bar with us, but didn't feel like changing the sprocket to 7 pin. 0205231719.jpg
    It's a dandy, for sure. 0205231721_HDR.jpg
Not the biggest we have cut, but the biggest I think I have dropped 0205231722a.jpg
It's post oak, he thinks it's between 125-135 yrs old. 0205231722.jpg
We will tackle taking it apart this morning...
    More pics to come

Biggun for sure. That was the fun part, dismantling that canopy is gonna take some planning.

I hope you like limbing. It could’ve shed a few more before you got there. :)
    Nice score, nice old tree.

Nice job getting it on the ground! With a big tree such as that, I always like to see how many cord it equates to once it’s all processed. You’ll have to keep us posted on your post oak:rofl:

Like other's have said, a lot of BTU's in that tree, but a lot of work ahead of you to get them. Hope you don't find any metal and get it processed safely.
Maybe you'll get a tune-up out of the deal.

    Wow- great project!
You and Mizz Carol gonna be on that for a minute!
Gotta say tho, unless it was intentional, looks like you had very little hinge wood left Jeff. But it’s down and y’all are safe, so there you go!

Holy acorns! With all the limbs, I think I would have charged a nominal fee to drop it and let him clean up and keep the wood.:thumbs:

It had some lean that way, after I made the face cut, I decided to bore cut the center from the face cut side, lessen barber chair possibility. Then did my back cut, leaving it very thick on left hand side, hoping to swing it a li6 more. Post oak is brittle, doesn't pull fibers like white oak does. But glad it went down safe.
