Helped my buddy mill some Ash slabs the other day. That’s a 6 foot bar attached to his swingmill. 9 foot log that was 24” on the big end, took about 5 minutes per pass, cool setup. We got six 9/4 slabs. The milling chain had two opposite cutters right next to each other about every foot.
For all he has into that, why not use a band? They are so much quicker, thinner kerf, etc. Nice big ol' log!
He got a screamin deal on the swing mill second hand, it came with the slabbing attachment, I don’t think he does much slab work, it’s pretty much just a hobby for him and to produce his own lumber for projects. He cut new siding for his whole house.
Hard to tell from picture but it looks like the oregon super skip milling chain I have in 404 I have a customer that uses it with a 3120 husky on a 60'bar he loves it you would not think it would work with that few cutters but it actually leaves a nice finish JB
