    Hello fellow firewood hoarders,

I hope everyone is starting to get some warmer temps and getting outside to clean up ground and get more firewood processed up! My brother and I tag teamed this pile of downed trees with a Kubota skid steer and Husqvarna chainsaws. With good communication skills and some hard work, its limitless what you can clean up with these tools! Made some GREAT firewood logs, and saw logs as well!

Enjoy the vid everyone! Have a good one!

When I have a nice straight log of a good species, I have a hard time just bucking it up in 18-20" rounds. Without the aid of tractors and hydro's, I have to take the mill to the wood. Addictive habit.

Didn't have time to watch your vid. Do you have any pics of milled wood or do you sell to a mill?

WOW! those are some good looking slabs. And I have actually never messed with sawing up logs before. A relative of mine actually has a wood mizer on order, and when he gets it I want him to saw up all the straight logs for me. I might sell some as well, but I would rather have the lumber for myself for projects. Im going to start building a home soon and would love to incorporate it into the build/furniture.... that is after it is dried out of course.

I might also look into the set. up you have with the mini chainsaw mill. Thats looks like a great option as well.

If you have a band mill available, don't mess with a csm. It's slow, hard work.

I really liked the pictures of your milling, was it all done with that same Husky saw? and how hard was it on chains did you have to sharpen or change them during the milling?

Yes, the 394 has had its share of time in the mill. I don’t use special chain, just adjust the angles a bit, usually 10-15 degree top plate. Full skip full chisel for the long bar and I used full comp full chisel on that oak w/ a 28” bar and it flew through the log. The finish isn’t great but if you are csm’ing chances are you will be planing anyway.
Milling with a saw is thee absolute hardest thing you could ever do to it. On big logs, I’ve pretty much ran a tank of gas per cut! And it’s wfo almost the whole way, only stopping to move wedges.

That video really shows how much backbreaking work that gos into using a chainsaw in milling, looking at the amount of boards you milled and how slow the sawing process was, i just have to hand it to you for getting it done.

I am betting your back is still sore from having to bend over and pushing the saw.

This has been a really good thread for us to read and view.
